Geiger-Müller counter radiation survey meter (A battery-powered radiation counting instrument with a gas-filled radiation detection chamber operated at an applied voltage in the "Geiger" region. It typically consists of an internal radiation detection chamber or external probe; high voltage power supply; electrometer (to measure current); pulse discriminator; and other electronics, operational controls, scaled meter display or read out system. A Geiger-Müller (GM) counter, or Geiger counter, cannot discriminate between different types of radiation and is limited to detecting low-level radiation emissions. However, because of its high sensitivity, it is useful for detecting radioactive contamination and spillage in work areas.)
